Not all lumens are comparable

Some inexpensive projectors advertise enormous brightness figures without a recognized test method. ANSI and ISO lumen measurements are more useful for comparison, although testing conditions still vary. Treat vague LED-lumen or light-source-lumen claims with caution.

Image size changes everything

As the projected image grows, the same light spreads across a larger area and appears dimmer. A model suitable for a dark 100-inch screen may look washed out at 130 inches or with lamps on. Screen material and wall color also affect perceived contrast.

Budget for the full setup

Throw distance, mounting, focus uniformity, fan noise, input lag, and replacement light sources all matter. A cheap projector may require an expensive screen or awkward placement. Map the room with the manufacturer throw calculator before ordering.
