Balance resolution and speed

Higher refresh rates make motion clearer, but only when the computer can produce enough frames. A 240 Hz display is poor value for a system that usually runs games near 90 frames per second. Resolution also increases graphics demand, so 4K is not automatically the best gaming choice.

Panel quality still matters

Look beyond the headline refresh rate. IPS panels generally offer dependable color and viewing angles, while VA can produce stronger contrast with more motion smearing on some models. OLED provides outstanding response and contrast but costs more and requires sensible care with static desktop elements.

Check the hidden essentials

Adaptive sync range, usable overdrive settings, stand adjustment, USB-C power delivery, and warranty coverage can separate two otherwise similar monitors. A low price is less attractive if the stand needs immediate replacement or the fast mode creates obvious inverse ghosting.
